We love math!
We work on tally marks, telling time to the hour, half hour and eventually the quarter hour. We work on counting on, counting backwards, using the number grid and number line, beginning calculator skills, measuring, skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, counting pennies, nickels, dimes and finally quarters and dollars. You can help your child with these skills at home. They love to count the coins in your wallet!
We hope to become experts on facts of 10, an important number for first graders. First graders will learn facts as a family (3+7=10,10-7=3). Watch for the fact triangles to come home to practice. You can practice these math facts as you ride in the car. |
Math Lab
Children love and learn best with active hands on math. We visit the math lab once a week for math enrichment. We encourage children to share their reasoning or explain how they go about solving a problem. We love to hear how children think about math and find answers. You can help your child with math by playing card games, dice games, board games and doing puzzles, using tangrams and dominoes, counting money, telling time, using a calculator, and playing computer math games. Help your child find math all around them- at the grocery, while measuring, as they save and spend. Help them find web sites to practice math skills and have fun. Check our the Everyday Math web site. |
Volunteers Needed
A Days 10:00-11:30 Math and Fun Centers We love to have parent, grandparent and babysitter volunteers help with our math and fun centers. You do not need to be a math whiz! We supply all the materials and directions. You work with a small group of children for about 12-15 minutes. Then another group will rotate to you. Your child will love having you come! We love to play math games. Check out our Shutterfly site to sign up to volunteer. We’d love to have you! You may want to stay for recess and lunch. |
